Welcome, thank you for visiting, I’m Alaisha.
Born in Northern California, tracing back to North & West India and the heart of Persia.
I am a sensitive instrument, lover of rhythm, and cosmic toddler here to play for a whiff of time.
A bhakt (from Sanskrit bhakti — loving devotion) of Beauty.
I am a student of dance 23 years and counting. Incubated in flamenco, born into samba, foundations in ballet, escape into hip hop, explorations ongoing… In both practice and performance, I draw from anywhere a Higher energy is channeled — mainly House, Butoh, Odissi, and other traditional forms of my homelands, as well as somatic and energetic healing practices. As much as possible, my process is one of emptying. Gelassenheit: surrender in order to be. Only in the soil of emptiness can the Divine take root.
How am I of service through performance? By channeling the “axe to the frozen sea within.” Our inner seas have become so frozen that the world is burning. When did we lose the key to it all: enoughness? How can we come to know it again? To take enough, make enough, have enough, be enough.
How am I trying to grow? Breathing — piece of cake, right? Becoming better friends with the floor — learning to fall without fear, trusting that I will be caught. Deepening my study of Butoh and beginning anew my study of Odissi. I’m also seeking teachers and spaces for Clown and Viewpoint. (I would like to finally make friends with Grotesque, the underbelly of Beauty.
Please feel free to send me any teachers/classes/spaces/communities that you recommend!
